THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF CRUDE EXTRACT OF ALLIUM CEPA (RED ONIONS) ON THE OVARIES OF AN ADULT FEMALE WISTAR RATS FOLLOWING MANGANESE TOXICITY
Abstract
Manganese. a heavy metal essential for certain biological processes, poses significant health risks when present in high concentrations, including neurotoxicity and reproductive damage, The study examines the protective effects of crude extract of Allium Cepaon the ovarian health of adult female Wistar by focusing on its antioxidative properties. To investigate the potential therapeutic properties of Allium Cepa (Red Onions) in reducing manganese-induced reproductive toxicity, the research utilized a controlled experimental design involving twenty- four adult female Wistar rats divided into four groups: control, manganese exposure only. manganese with quercetin treatment, and manganese with red onion extract treatment. Group 2 (Mn only) was given 25mg/kg of Mn once on alternate days for 2 weeks. Group 3 was given 25mg/kg of Mn once in alternate days 1 ml of Allium Cepafor 2 weeks, and 10mg/kg of quercetin daily for 14 days. After 14 days, the rats were sacrificed. the ovaries were dissected, routinely processed using H&E, and photomicrographs were produced. Histological analysis showed improved ovarian morphology and reduced follicular atresia. suggesting that the antioxidative properties of Allium Cepaeffe y weight analysis showed significant weight loss in the ctively counteract manganese-induced ovarian damage. Bod manganese-only group compared to the control and treated groups. Both Alfium Cepaand quercetin d weight loss and preserve ovarian tissue integrity, likely
elling were found to mitigate manganese-induce due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The findings provide comp evidence of the protective role of Allium Cepain preserving reproductive health under oxidative induced by heavy metal exposure. This study highlights the potential use of red environmental toxin-related
stress conditions onion extract as a natural therapeutic agent for preventing reproductive disorders. Further research is recommended to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action and explore clinical applications of Allium Cepa in reproductive health.
