EFFECT OF CRUDE EXTRACT OF ALLIUM CEPA ON THE NEUROBEHAVIOUR OF ADULT FEMALE WISTER RATS FOLLOWING MANGANESE TOXICITY
Abstract
Manganese (Mn) is an essential trace element, but excessive exposure can lead to neurotoxicity, resulting in significant neurobehavioral alterations. This study investigates the effects of Allium cepa (onion) crude extract on neurobehavioral changes in adult female Wistar rats following manganese-induced toxicity.
A total of [24] adult female Wistar rats were randomly distributed into 4 groups and were feed with normal rat’s chow and water. Group I served as control and received normal saline, Group II received 25mg/kg of (Mn), Group III received 25mg/kg of manganese once every alternate day and 1ml of Allium cepa daily for 2 weeks, Group IV received 25mg/kg of manganese once every alternate day for two weeks, and 10mg/kg of dissolved Quercetin solution orally for 2 weeks after which the animals were sacrificed.
The present study showed significant p
