Abstract

ABSTRACT This project conducted a detailed comparative analysis of two types of solar charge controllers: Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), to evaluate their performance in battery charging within a solar power system. The project involved setting up a system equipped with both types of controllers, conducting tests, and measuring key electrical parameters such as voltage and current. The results indicated that while PWM controllers were simpler and less expensive, they had slower charging rates and increased battery stress. In contrast, MPPT controllers optimized charging circumstances to provide faster charging and improved battery life management. The project recommends using PWM controllers for simpler, less expensive systems and MPPT controllers for high-efficiency applications.
