Abstract

ABSTRACT This study has aimed to isolates and identify bacteria in the mouth of Fidei polytechnic Students. This study was employed and conducted on 30 students in the study area. Both sexes were involved. Swabs taken from 30 participants gave positive growths on different culture media. The biochemical properties of the isolates were tested according to Bergey’s Manual of systematic Bacteriology. The result showed that Proteus Spp. was the most frequently isolated bacteria which recorded (26.6%) followed by Bacillus Spp. (20%), Streptococcus Spp. (20%), Staphylococcus Spp. (16.6%), and Enterobacter Spp. (16.6%) respectively. The most dominant species of the Gram positive strains were Streptococcus Spp.(n=6) and Bacillus Spp.(n=6). On the other hand Proteus Spp. was the prominent amongst the Gram negative strains isolated in the study area. The control of this bacteria found in mouth can be achieved by brushing twice a day with fluoride tooth paste and clean between teeth with an interdental like-floss once a day. These easy habits can remove the source of food for the bacteria, which can keep reproducing in mouth.
