COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BACTERIAL LOAD ON GATE PASS IN POLICE CLINIC AND YOBE STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL DAMATURU
Abstract
This study investigated the bacterial load on gate passes in two healthcare settings, Police Clinic Damaturu and Yobe State Teaching Hospital Damaturu. It aimed to compare the bacterial load on gate passes of the healthcare setting. The results revealed the presence of bacterial contaminants on gate passes in both settings, with varying levels of bacterial load. Were 10 gate passes were collected from both healthcare settings and analyzed using standard microbiological techniques. The results showed that both gate passes harbored significant bacterial loads, with varying colony-forming units (CFU). The bacterial load on gate passes from Yobe State Teaching Hospital (average CFU of 63.2 x 10²) was higher compared to Police Clinic Damaturu (average CFU of 44.8 x 10²). The findings highlight the need for regular disinfection and hand hygiene practices to prevent the transmission of infections. Implementing these measures can help promote a safer environment in healthcare settings and reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
