Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an inability to respond to insulin or insulin deficiency that is a metabolic disease. Diabetes mellitus is considered inflammatory; therefore, this research study ensued a study, which looked into the correlation between diabetes mellitus and Systemic Immune Inflammation Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) of diabetes mellitus subjects in Central Hospital, Agbor. One hundred (100) volunteers were recruited into the study that includes fifty (50) diabetes mellitus patients and fifty (50) seemingly healthy participants. Standard analysis methods were used in analysing full blood count (FBC) and fasting blood glucose (FBG). The findings demonstrate substantively elevated FBG, total white blood cells (TWBC), and SII among the subjects with diabetes mellitus compared to the apparently healthy subjects and it was not found to differ significantly in SIRI as well as packed cell volume. There was positive positive association between FBG and SII and SIRI. Expectations with increased SII suggest that there is an inflammatory reaction of diabetes mellitus and the indices can be utilized as probable biomarkers of assessing Diabetes mellitus.
