Abstract

Investigation were carried out on the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the performance of oba super 6 hybird variety of maize (Zea mays L.) during 2024 cropping season at the research farm site of Imo State Polytechnic Omuma Oru East. The objectives of the study was to evaluate the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the yield of maize and to determine the organic and inorganic fertilizer appropriate for the growth and yield of maize. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with four treatments replicated four times, the treatments included zero application T0, NPK 15;15;15 AT 300kg/ha T1, poultry manure at 7.5tons/ha T2, NPK 15:15:15 at 150kg/ha T3. Data collection were on the plant height cm, number of leaves, number of cobs and fruit weight tons/ha. Readings were taken at 8, 10 and 12 weeks after plants(WAP). Analysis of variance for randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used to analyse the result, means were separated using least significant difference LSD at 5% level of probability. The result from the study showed that the combination of poultry manure at 7.5 tons/ha plus NPK 15:15:15 at 150kg/ha were significantly better than the other treatments which had a yield of 1.45 tons/ha, while the untreated control gave a yield of 0.75 tons\ha based on the study poultry manure at 7.5tons/ha plus NPK15:15:15 at150kg/ha, is however recommended to farmers who would want to cultivate maize in the area
