Abstract

The management of sanitary facilities in secondary schools is pivotal for promoting health, hygiene, and academic progress. This study investigated the current state of sanitary facilities, the challenges faced in their management, and their impact on academic performance in selected secondary schools in Ondo Town, Ondo State. Using a mixed-methods approach, data was collected through structured questionnaires distributed to students. The findings revealed that while basic facilities such as toilets are widely available, others like shower rooms and incinerators are less common. Key challenges identified include insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, and poor maintenance practices, all of which significantly impact student health and academic outcomes. The study concluded that improving sanitary facilities through increased funding, infrastructure development, regular maintenance, and innovative technologies is essential. Additionally, strengthening educational programs and public awareness campaigns, along with systematic monitoring and evaluation, can lead to sustained improvements. These interventions are critical for creating a conducive learning environment that supports student health and academic success.
