Abstract

The study investigated the antimicrobial activity of crude extracts of fermented and unfermented Parkia biglobosa seeds on selected clinical microbial isolates namely, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Parkia biglobosa seeds were obtained from Akesan market in Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. The samples were pre-treated and pulverized into powder. The extraction was achieved with methanol and water and Nutritional composition analysis was performed following official methods of AOAC. E. coli was insensitive in aqueous extract with zone of inhibition of 00.00mm while other clinical isolates were sensitive in both methanolic and aqueous extracts with appreciate zone of inhibition. Parkia biglobosa has proximate composition of Crude protein (49.55%), Crude fibre (25.84%), Ash (9.61%), moisture (8.81%) and Crude fat (6.19%). Parkia biglobosa has mineral composition of Na (0.11mg/100g), P (0.15mg/100g), Mg (0.13mg/100g), Zn (24.67mg/100g) and Zn (74.93mg/100g). The results of the analysis shows that Parkia biglobosa seed extracts has sensitive antimicrobial activities on clinical isolates and the seed can be good source of those elements.
