ANIMATED AND STATIC INFOGRAPHICS INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN CHEMISTRY IN MKPAT ENIN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study was carried out to examine the effect of animated and static infographics instructional material on students’ performance in Chemistry in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The design for the study was quasi-experimental design. The population of this study comprised all the 1740 Senior Secondary one (SS1) Chemistry students in the sixteen (16) public secondary schools in the study area during the 2022/23 session. The sample for the study was 80 Chemistry students. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the two schools used in the study. The instrument used for the study was “Chemistry Performance Test on Chemical Bonding (CPTCB)”. The instrument was subjected to face and content validity by two Chemistry lecturers and an expert in Measurement and Evaluation in the Department of Science Education. A reliability coefficient of .81 was obtained for the instrument using Kuder-Richardson formula-20. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while independent t-test was used for testing the hypotheses. The findings of this study showed that there is significant difference in the mean performance scores of Chemistry students when taught the concept of chemical bonding using animated and static infographics instructional materials in favour of those taught using animated infographic instructional material. The findings also showed that there is no significant difference in the mean performance scores of male and female Chemistry students when taught the concept of chemical bonding using animated and static infographic instructional materials. Based on the findings of the study, it was concluded that animated infographic instructional materials enhance students’ performance in chemistry more than the static infographics instructional materials in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. It was recommended among others that, Chemistry teachers use animated infographic instructional materials to facilitate the teaching and learning of Chemistry.
