Abstract

Doxorubicin is a potent chemothera peutic agent used inthe treatment of several tumors, despitethis important use, it poses a threat to cardicvascular integrity. Hesperidin is a powerful therapeutic agent ableto modulate several car diovascular diseases (CV Ds) risk factors. Electrocardiography (ECG) is widely used to monitor cardiac dysfunction.T hisstudy seeks to eva luate the effect of hesperidin on ECG in doworubicin induced myocardial infarction in male wis tar rats. A total of 25 male Wistar rats weighing between 120 = 170 mg/kg were used for this experiment. The animalswere allowed to acclimatifzore 4 weeks and they were selected rmndomly into & different groups with & rats in ea ch group. At the end of the 4-week experimental pericd, the rats were subjected to an overnight fast and anaesthetiz ed. The anaesthetized animals werebled by cardiac puncture. The wheole bloodwa s collected and then centrifuged. The serum was carefully collected and thereafter stored at -20 oC. The result shows the effects on the ECG, hesperidi n treatment has improved the overall electrical activity of the heart and also reduction in the QT interval. Hesperidin treatment reduce the size of the infarct and improve cardiac function. & modulate the activity of varicus signaling p athways invelved in the development of myocardial infarction.
