Abstract

Abstract Histotaphonomy is the study of microscopic post-mortem changes in tissues and their relationship to decomposition processes and postmortem interval (PMI) estimation. Reliable PMI estimation remains one of the most challenging aspects of forensic investigations. Internal organs undergo progressive structural degradation after death, and these changes follow relatively predictable patterns depending on tissue composition, enzyme content, vascularity, and environmental exposure.
