TIME INFLUENCE ON PULSE RATE FOLLOWING INTRAMUSCULARLY ADMINISTRATION OF KETAMINE IN RABBIT
Abstract
The research was conducted in two weeks at Kademi under Gaya locol government area of
Kano State, fifteen (15) rabbits were used and randomly divided in to five groups, with three
rabbits in each groups, the rabbits were managed in deep litter cages for 16days The general
anesthesia (ketamine injection) was used in the study and effect of drug was carried out at
different dosage and time intervals; 10mg/kg, 15mg/kg, 20mg/kg and 15, 30, 45 and
60minutes intervals through intramuscular administration (I.M). The pulse rate was taken for
three (3) days in the morning, afternoon and evening before ketamine administration as a
baseline (0 minutes) and after ketamine administration the pulse rate was taken at different
time intervals of different dosages in the morning, afternoon and evening in the same days.
The 10mg/kg and 15 mg/kg dosage of ketamine decreased rabbits heart beats/min in the
morning administration compared to afternoon and evening administered where it increases,
while the 20mg/kg dosage of ketamine increased rabbits heart beats/min in the morning and
afternoon administration compared to evening administration where it decreased in beats/min.
