ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGAL PATHOGENS CAUSING ROOT ROT IN TOMATOE PLANT(SOLANIUM LYCOPERSICUM)
Abstract
AbstractA total of 30 tomato plant specimens (stems, leaves, and roots) were collected from four irrigation sites: Yelwa, Bayara, Zango, and Gombe Road to assess the distribution of pathogenic fungi associated with root rot. Out of these, 17 samples (56.7%) were infected. The fungal isolates identified were Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, Aspergillus niger, and Alternaria alternata. Root samples exhibited the highest fungal incidence, particularly with Rhizoctonia solani, suggesting a strong association with root infections. Yelwa had the highest overall incidence of pathogenic fungi.
