Journal of Political Communication & Digital Media
    Meridian Scholars Press

The Journal of Political Communication & Digital Media (JPCDM) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Meridian Scholars Press, an independent, non-commercial open-access publisher, dedicated to advancing rigorous scholarship on the intersection of politics, communication, and digital technology. It provides a dedicated home for research that has, until now, been scattered across broader communication, political science, and computational social science journals, bringing that work together under a single venue with an explicit, shared commitment to methodological rigor, geographic and platform diversity, and public relevance. JPCDM was founded to address two gaps in the existing publishing landscape. First, much of the influential research on social media and political communication remains concentrated in a small number of high-cost, subscription-based venues, limiting access for scholars, journalists, and policymakers outside well-resourced institutions. Second, as documented across multiple systematic reviews (e.g., Kubin & von Sikorski, 2021; Ross Arguedas et al., 2022), the underlying evidence base is heavily skewed toward U.S. samples and a small number of platforms, particularly Twitter/X. JPCDM is designed to actively counteract both problems: it is fully open access from launch, and it explicitly prioritizes comparative, cross-national, and cross-platform submissions in its review criteria. The journal serves an interdisciplinary readership of political scientists, communication and media scholars, sociologists, computational social scientists, and policy researchers, as well as journalists, platform-policy practitioners, and civil-society organizations seeking peer-reviewed evidence on digital political communication. JPCDM publishes quarterly, with continuous online-first publication of accepted articles ahead of print compilation, and welcomes original research, systematic and narrative reviews, theoretical and critical commentary, methods notes, and curated data papers (see Section 4). Editorially, JPCDM is committed to transparent, timely, and constructive peer review; adherence to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) standards; and open data and reproducibility practices wherever legally and ethically possible. While published under the Meridian Scholars Press imprint, the journal is not owned by a commercial publishing conglomerate, and its editorial decisions rest solely with its Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board, governed by the policies set out in this document.
