HEPATOPROTECTIVE EFFECT OF AQUEOUS LEAVE EXTRACT OF MORINGA LEAF (MORINGA LUCIDA) ON PLASMODIUM BERGHEI INFECTED WISTAR ALBINO RATS
Simeon Ogechukwu Nwoko · HND · Biochemistry

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of Morinda lucida leave on the liver enzyme of plasmodium berghei infected rats. Twenty five adult wistar rats were divided into five groups: normal control (Group A), treated with 200mg/kg extract (Group B), treated with 400mg/kg extract (Group C), standard control with Amatem soft gel (Group D), and negative control (Group E). Liver function was assessed by measuring serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Body weight changes were monitored throughout the treatment period. The study revealed significant hepatoprotective effects of Moringa lucida extract. AST levels remained within normal ranges in treatment groups (22.0±2.65 to 35.0±1.26 IU/L) compared to the negative control (47.0±2.62 IU/L). ALT levels were well-controlled in all treatment groups (14.0±0.56 to 16.0±3.32 IU/L) versus the negative control (54.0±2.11 IU/L). ALP showed progressive increases across treatment groups but remained significantly lower than in untreated infected rats (274.0±2.53 IU/L). Body weight analysis demonstrated better weight maintenance in treated groups compared to untreated controls. These findings support the traditional use of Moringa lucida in malaria management and suggest its potential as an adjuvant therapy.

EMPLOYEES TRAINING AND PROJECT SUCCESS OF POULTRY FARMS IN RIVER STATE OF NIGERIA
Faith Chiamaka Okolie · BSc · Business Management

This study examined the relationship between employees’ training and project success in poultry farms within Rivers State, Nigeria. The research was motivated by the increasing concern over poor project implementation and operational inefficiencies observed in the poultry sector despite the growing investment in agricultural projects. The study aimed to determine how training design, training delivery, and employee competence contribute to achieving project success in selected poultry farms across Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, and Etche Local Government Areas. A descriptive survey design was employed, and structured questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 310 employees drawn from a population of 1,540 workers across 128 registered poultry farms in the state. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the demographic data, while Pearson correlation and regression analysis tested the hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed a significant positive relationship between employee training and project success in poultry farms. Specifically, training design was found to enhance employees’ understanding of project objectives; effective training delivery improved task performance; and employee competence significantly contributed to project completion within time and budget. The study established that well-structured training programs serve as a catalyst for operational excellence, employee motivation, and project sustainability in the poultry industry. The study recommends that poultry farm owners and managers in Rivers State should invest more in continuous and structured training programs aligned with specific project goals. Training delivery should be practical, interactive, and tailored to the technical needs of staff. Additionally, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms should be embedded in training programs to ensure sustained improvement in employee competence and overall project performance.<br> Keywords: Employee Training, Training Design, Training Delivery, Employee Competence, Project Success, Poultry Farms, Rivers State.

ASSESSMENT OF FAUNA FUNTIONAL BIODIVERSITY IN POST HYDROCARBON REMEDIATED SOIL ECOSYSTEM
Victory Chukwuekwu · BSc · Animal and Environmental Biology

This study investigates the functional biodiversity of soil fauna in post-hydrocarbon remediated <br> ecosystems, focusing on the recovery of species richness, abundance, and functional roles of <br> soil microarthropods. The aim was to evaluate the impact of hydrocarbon pollution on soil <br> fauna and recovery potential of a nutrient amendment bioremediation technique in enhancing <br> soil fauna diversity and ecosystem function. The research was conducted across four sites, <br> divided into two sections: Site A (remediated 2 months and 4 months prior to the <br> commencement of the study), Site B (remediated 6 months and 4 years prior to the <br> commencement of the study), Site C (polluted site), and Site D (unpolluted site used as control). <br> Soil samples were collected using an 8.5 cm bucket-type auger from two depth ranges (0-10 <br> cm and 10-20 cm), extracted with modified Burkard model Berlese-Tullgren funnels, and <br> analysed for species richness, abundance, and functional diversity. The findings revealed that <br> Site D (control) had the highest species richness, abundance, and functional diversity, followed <br> by Site B (long-term remediated site). Site A (short-term remediated site), showed lower <br> species richness, abundance, and functional diversity, while Site C (polluted site), exhibited <br> the lowest species richness, abundance, and functional diversity. The study recorded four <br> functional groups with Site B showing the highest diversity, indicating that hydrocarbon <br> pollution negatively impacts soil fauna populations and their ecosystem services. The results <br> also suggest that the nutrient amendment remediation technique is effective in restoring soil <br> fauna populations and the ecosystem services they provide after a long-term remediation.

THE ROLE OF RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS ON THE CONDUCT OF 2023 KADUNA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN SABON-GARI LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Abdullahi Dalhatu · BSc · Political Science

the conduct of elections in Nigeria, particularly in Kaduna State, has been a subject of interest to many stakeholders. This study examines the role of religious organizations in the conduct of the Kaduna State governorship election in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The study seeks to investigate the extent to which religious organizations influenced the electoral process, voter turnout, and the overall outcome of the election. The study employed a survey research design, with a sample size of 400 respondents selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that religious organizations played a significant role in promoting peaceful coexistence, voter education, and mobilization during the election. However, the study also found that some religious organizations were accused of bias and partisan politics, which had a negative impact on the electoral process. The study recommends that religious organizations should maintain neutrality and focus on promoting peaceful coexistence and voter education, rather than engaging in partisan politics. The study also suggests that the electoral commission should engage religious organizations in its activities to promote transparency and accountability.
