Fishes (Mullet, Tilapia, Mudskipper) and Sediment samples were collected from Andoni River and analysed for Heavy metals (Mn, Ni, Co, Cd, Pb and Cr) using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Finding from the study indicated heavy metal accumulation in mullet was in the order Mn>Ni>Co>Cd>Cr>Pb, in mudskipper Mn>Ni>Co>Cd>Pb>Cr, in tilapia Mn>Co>Ni>Cd>Pb>Cr, and in sediment Mn>Ni>Co>Cr>Cd>Pb. Manganese was the highest in all samples, with values ranging from 0.340 ppm (mullet) to 0.676 ppm (sediment). Nickel and cobalt followed, while cadmium, lead, and chromium showed lower concentrations. Lead and chromium were below detectable levels in some samples. The concentrations of all heavy metals in fish and sediment samples were found to be below the World Health Organization (WHO) standard limits. The heavy metal levels detected in the fish species and sediment were within safe limits, indicating minimal risk to human health and the ecosystem. However, continual monitoring is recommended to prevent potential bioaccumulation and contamination over time. Additionally, stricter regulations on pollution sources in the aquatic environment are advised to maintain these safe levels.
