ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FUNGI FROM PACKAGE AND UNPACKAGE SOYBEAN POWDER
Fatimah Abiodun Ayetoro · HND · Microbiology

Food products are a rich nutrient source that can attract both bacterial and fungal colonizers. Pitt et al (2009). As such, the food product can be regarded as an ecological resource. Colonization with a number of food-borne microorganisms is beneficial with respect to nutritional value and prolonged storage of the food product, which is known as food fermentation in other case. After successful colonization of the product, its nutritional properties are altered. Samson et al. (2004).When the nutritional value, structure, and taste of the product are negatively influenced, this colonization is called food spoilage. It can be accompanied by the production of toxic secondary metabolites which may result in serious medical problems (Dijksterhuis et al., 2007). These two aspects of food colonization are two sides of the same coin. Food spoilage is a major threat for our food stock and is responsible for enormous losses Pitt et al., (2009).

ANATOMICAL STUDY OF SOME SPECIES OF NYCTAGINACEAE
Victory Oluwabukunmi Aribisala · BSc · Plant Science and Biotechnology

    ABSTRACT
The comparative study of plant structure, morphology, and anatomy of two of nyctaginaceae species cultivars from Nigeria. Anatomical characteristics are important evidence when elucidating the relationships among higher plants. Therefore, the anatomical information can be taxonomically useful without having obvious evolutionary or phylogenetic interpretation. Even though, all the species show similarity in their characters, striking differences were noticed with respect to their morphological characters. Two major cultivated of nyctaginaceae species leaf and stem anatomical features were evaluated, focusing on leaf histology using transverse sections. Results of the present study shows presence of different types of stomata including, paracytic,

EVALUATION OF THE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL AND PROXIMATE PARAMETERS OF DELONIX REGIA SEEDS AND SEED OIL
Damilare Ayodeji Obadaye · HND · Applied chemistry

Delonix regia commonly known as Royal Poinciana is a flowering plants in the pea family, Fabaceae. Seed oils represent one of the largest key materials that can be obtained from biomass and cheaply processed raw materials. The characteristics of oils from different sources depend mainly on its compositions and no oil from a single source can be suitable for all purposes. (Tura, A. M. et.al., 2015). The utility of any particular oil depends upon chemical and physicochemical properties of the oil.

The aim of this work is to determine the Physicochemical and Proximate composition of Delonix regia seed and seed oil. The result of the physicochemical analysis is shown to be; Saponification value (143.80±1.01mg/KOH/g), Acid value (0.48±0.03mg/KOH/g), Iodine value (41.80±0.54mgI2/100g), Peroxide value (18.80±0.21mEq/kg), Density (0.943±0.00g/ml), Refractive index (1.49±0.00) and Specific gravity (0.743±0.00) for seed oil. The result of the proximate analysis shown to be; Moisture (4.73±0.13%), Fat (49.93±0.39%), Ash (1.79±0.39%), Protein (8.91±0.25%), and Carbohydrate (34.67±0.04) for the seed oil. This analysis showed that Delonix regia seed oils are rich source of carbohydrate, fat and also has good Saponification value in oil indicates that the sample has shorter fatty acid chain and lower molecular weight.

From this research finding, it is recommended that the seed oil of Delonix regia is of nutritional and industrially important. The oil could be used as a substitute for other oils or blended with other vegetable oils and hence the use of the oil in soap and shampoo industries should be encouraged.

KEYWORDS: Delonix regia, Physicochemical parameters, proximate parameters, Seed oil.

AN EVALUATION OF READERS’ PERCEPTION OF NEWSPAPER REVIEWS OF NIGERIA HOME VIDEOS: A STUDY OF NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA (NOUN), BENIN CITY STUDY CENTRE
Joy Omolade Ikpefuan · HND · Mass communication

    Abstract

This study was an examination of the influence of home videos on the students of National Open University of Nigeria, Benin Study centre. The goals of the study were to determine the extent of National Open University of Nigerian students viewership of home videos; nature of effect of home videos on the moral values of National Open University of Nigerian students; perception of National Open University of Nigerian students about Nigerian home videos and how the negative effects of Nigerian home videos on National Open University of Nigerian students can be curbed. The cultivation theory served as theoretical framework. The copies of questionnaire were used as the research instrument, and the survey was the research design. The results of the study revealed that National Open university of Nigeria students watch home videos because of the entertainment enlightenment value, love for their favourite actors and as past time in order to kill boredom. It was also found that home videos have both positive and negative effects. Positively, it enhances the moral values, need for education and ethical values of students. Negatively, it also promotes immoral behaviours. As a consequence of the results of this research, it was recommended that instead of just seeing Nollywood films as a source of entertainment, National open university of Nigeria students and in extension tertiary institution students should make efforts to assimilate the ethical and moral principles that are propagated in home videos and that Nigeria movie producers should ban all forms of movies that directly or indirectly devalue the essence of education among youths. Education should always be placed higher than greed for money.
