Utibe-Abasi Chrysantus Friday · BSc · Theatre Arts

    ABSTRACT
Educational drama is a powerful and dynamic teaching approach that harnesses the transformative potentials of drama to foster deep learning, personal growth and social charge. The discourse on child centered teaching and learning is one that has continued to challenge educators the world over. Teaching and learning for child development, especially in Nigerian Primary Schools have been ruled by giving of notes via chalkboard and prescribed textbooks. This method of learning makes education very tiring and burdensome, leading to poor development outcomes. Many Literatures exist to address the discourse on educational drama as transformative learning, however, there are limited focus on the cultural perspective in child learning, insufficient attention to teachers role in transformative learning, limited attention to the learning environment etc. this academic void is what this research intends to fill. This study focuses on the dynamic process of educational drama which promotes transformative learning, It researches into the ability of the child to learn, unlearn, relearn and develop character through effective educational drama practice in schools. The qualitative research method is adopted for this study, which allows for in-depth content analysis, and careful observation for proper data evaluation and interpretation. A classroom drama project carried out by the researcher in Saint Joseph Primary School Afaha Oku, Uyo, was evaluated as the primary source of data. This study finds out that education, especially as it relates to children can be made easy and fun-filled, if teachers and facilitators embrace the tenets of educational drama. Again, the researcher found out from his classroonm experience with the pupils that educational drama is a very valuable tool for education, skills development and creative inventions. The study therefore recommends that. the teacher-facilitator, as well as the society should be able to observe the weak areas of the child and develop improvised and creative means to help the child learn and get better, that educational drama be integrated into mainstream teaching and learning processes in the classroom, as it will further help to provide a robust foundation for physical, emotional, intellectual and psychological transformation of participants. The research comes to conclusion that integration of educational drama into mainstream teaching and learning processes, provides a robust foundation for physical, emotional, intellectual and psychological transformation of participants.

EFFECTS OF PHENOLIC-RICH CHROMOLAENA ODORATA LEAF EXTRACT ON HEPATIC OXIDATIVE STRESS STATUS OF RAT EXPOSED TO LOW LEVEL PESTICIDES MIXTURE
Isaac Ayomide Luyi · BTech · Biochemistry

    ABSTRACT
Pesticides are important and useful in Agriculture for the control of pests, insects, weeds, and ultimately to allow optimum yields. However, they caused undesirable effects on humans upon exposure. Chromolaena Odorata commonly known as Siam weed is a tropical weed which possesses anticancer, antidiabetic, antihepatotoxic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound-healing properties. The objective of this study is to attempt the use of Chromolaena Odorata as a therapeutic and protective agent against the oxidative toxicity accrued by exposure to pesticides mixture.Twenty-eight Male Wistar rats of average weight 150g were used in this study, The rats were split into four groups of seven namely the Group 1 (Control), Group 2 (Chromolaena Odorata, 100mg/kg body weight), Group 3 (Butachlor, Mancozeb, and Dichlorvos at one-fiftieth LD50), and Group 4 (Pesticide mixture + Chromolaena Odorata). The treatment process lasted for 14 days after which the rats were sacrificed and liver was harvested for further biochemical analysis. Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Malondialdehyde (MDA), Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX), Glutathione (GSH), and Catalase (CAT) were all determined from the liver tissues. Treatment with Chromolaena Odorata showed a significant decrease in the activity of Superoxide Dismutase and Catalase by about 50 percent, however the Pesticide Mixture group showed an increase in SOD and Catalase activity by more than 50 percent, the CO + PM group, on the other hand showed a little increase compared to the Control group. There was a decrease of about 3.5-fold in Malondialdehyde levels in the Chromolaena Odorata group compared to the Control, however there was minor decrease in the MDA levels in the Pesticide Mixture and the CO+PM group. The CO group showed a five-fold decrease in Glutathione Peroxidase and Glutathione activities compared to the Control group, while the PM and CO+PM groups showed slight decrease and increase respectively. In conclusion, Chromolaena Odorata displayed an evident potential to ameliorate the level of oxidative stress or damage, and possibly act as an exogenous source of antioxidant in the case of deficient endogenous antioxidants due to hepatic oxidative stress caused by exposure to these Pesticides.

    ABSTRACT
Design and construction of three phase (3 ) automatic change-over switch, using microprocessor based seven segment display is a means of reducing stress in changing power manually. Most industrial commercial and domestic process are dependent on electrical power. In the event of power interruptions, the change-over from power supply by a public utility to a generator is usually performed manually, often resulting wasting of time and interruption of on-going process. Moreover, machine damage some times occurs because of human errors. This project present the design and construction of the three phase automatic change-over switch that switches electrical power supply from public supply to Generator in the event of an insufficient voltage. The systems uses an electronic control circuit involving integrated circuit, transistor and electromechanical devices. The microprocessor display in this project is to show when there is power either from PHCN or Generator and also when there is power or not in each of the phase (R,Y,B). It can be denoted by 1 when there is light (ie there is power) and Blank when there is no light (ie there is no power). Key word, Relay, public supply voltage, Generator, switching, electronic control circuit, transistor and microprocessor. In chapter one it talk about introduction, chapter two literature review, chapter three the principle of operation.
