THE IMPACTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN SHAPING GLOBAL POLITICAL AWARENESS AMONG NIGERIAN YOUTHS
Deborah Ehikowoicho Abah · BSc · International Studies

This study examines the influence of social media on the global political awareness of Nigerian youths. It explores how digital platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok shape exposure to international political issues, interpretation of political content, credibility perception, and participation in civic activities. The research is guided by Habermas’s Public Sphere Theory, complemented by insights from the Networked Public Sphere Theory. Using a quantitative survey design, data are collected from 380 students across selected tertiary institutions in southwestern Nigeria and analyzed with descriptive statistics through SPSS. The findings show that Nigerian youths are highly exposed to global political content through social media and that these platforms serve as informal spaces for political learning and discourse. However, the study finds that while awareness levels are high, critical evaluation of online information and translation into offline political action remain moderate due to misinformation, limited trust, and socio-economic barriers. The results also reveal that social media democratizes information and fosters civic dialogue, yet it operates as a double-edged space that promotes both engagement and distortion. The study concludes that social media functions as a transformative but imperfect public sphere that reshapes how Nigerian youths learn, discuss, and participate in global politics. It recommends improved digital literacy education, integration of digital citizenship into civic curricula, and stronger institutional support for youth political engagement online and offline.

THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN DEBT ON SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: A FOCUS ON THE NIGERIA’S FOURTH REPUBLIC (2010–2020)
Abidemi Joy Adesina · BSc · Public Administration

This study examines the impact of foreign debt on Nigeria’s socioeconomic development during the Fourth Republic, focusing on the period between 2010 and 2020. It evaluates how external borrowing, aimed at addressing developmental gaps, influenced key indicators such as poverty reduction, infrastructure growth, and human capital development. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative data on Nigeria’s foreign debt stock and economic performance with qualitative insights from policy documents and expert opinions. Findings reveal a dual outcome: while foreign loans funded critical infrastructure projects, weak fiscal management and rising debt servicing costs hindered sustained development, exacerbating economic vulnerabilities. The study underscores the need for a robust debt management framework, prioritization of productive investments, and transparency in loan utilization to ensure long-term benefits. This analysis provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of foreign debt as a tool for socioeconomic advancement in developing economies like Nigeria.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED DOCUMENT REQUEST AND SCHOLARSHIP ACCESS SYSTEM.
    Zulaihat Shehu Abubakar · BSc

The process of requesting academic documents such as transcripts, certificates, and statements of results in many Nigerian universities is largely manual, slow, and stressful, requiring students to make repeated physical visits that result in delays, poor communication, and missed opportunities. Access to scholarship information is also fragmented across informal channels, causing many students to remain unaware of available funding opportunities. This project developed a web-based platform aimed at streamlining academic document requests while providing centralized access to scholarship information. The system enables students to submit and track document requests online, monitor real-time status updates, download approved documents, and view or save scholarship listings, while administrators can manage requests, update statuses, upload documents, and publish scholarship opportunities through a secure dashboard. An iterative development methodology was adopted, and the system was implemented using PHP with a MVC architecture, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap to ensure a responsive and user-friendly interface. System testing demonstrated improved efficiency, reduced processing time, enhanced transparency, and better communication between students and administrators, as physical follow-ups were minimized. The integrated scholarship aggregation feature further added value by exposing students to both local and international funding opportunities on a single platform. In conclusion, the system provides a reliable and scalable digital solution to long-standing administrative challenges in Nigerian tertiary institutions, and it is recommended that universities adopt such platforms while incorporating stronger security measures, institutional database integration, and intelligent scholarship recommendation features for improved effectiveness.

Noticeboard is a necessary thing in any institution or public utility places like bus stations, <br> railway stations, schools, shopping centers, etc. But pasting various notices day to day is <br> a difficult process. A separate person is required to take care of these traditional <br> noticeboards. Even the notices are not able to reach on time as it takes time to circulate <br> amongst people. The traditional noticeboard is a flat solid object placed at strategic <br> positions making it an object on which notices and articles are placed. On the professional <br> college campus, notices spring up from different officials bringing reminders, warnings, <br> results, and appointments. As these notices are being placed on the same noticeboards, <br> some of the old notices are not removed and with time the board gets covered with several <br> notices and important messages are remained unnoticed.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH MALARIA INFECTIONS
Jamiu Olasunkanmi Olatinwo · BSc · Statistics

ABSTRACT<br> <br> Malaria remains a persistent public health challenge in Nigeria, with asymptomatic infections significantly contributing to ongoing transmission despite existing control measures. This study investigates the demographic, environmental, and clinical factors associated with malaria diagnosis, particularly among asymptomatic carriers, using statistical methods. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests of independence, and binary logistic regression to identify significant predictors of malaria prevalence.<br> The results indicated no statistically significant association between malaria diagnosis and variables such as age, gender, region, fever, chills, fatigue, and parasite detection. However, the presence of sweats showed a statistically significant relationship (p = 0.047), with an odds ratio of 1.612, suggesting individuals with sweats are more likely to test positive for malaria. The logistic regression model demonstrated limited predictive power, with a Nagelkerke R² of 0.04 and an overall classification accuracy of 60%, highlighting the complexity of malaria transmission and diagnosis.<br> These findings underscore the limitations of relying solely on self-reported symptoms for malaria detection and emphasize the need for more comprehensive diagnostic approaches. The study provides valuable insights for improving malaria control strategies in Nigeria by focusing on asymptomatic carriers and integrating laboratory-confirmed diagnostics with statistical modeling.
