Through the lens of Post colonial theory, the study explores how colonial legacies and inherited political structures have influenced contemporary leadership practices, often reinforcing patterns of disillusionment among the populace. Adopting a qualitative approach, it closely examines the two novels to reveal how Okediran and Betiang portray corrupt leadership as a key factor in Nigeria's ongoing socio-political disintegration, where unethical practices, betrayal of public trust, and self-serving governance remain prevalent. Both authors offer a critical perspective on the consequences of leadership failures, underscoring the deep-rooted issues that drive social fragmentation and moral decay, particularly affecting the younger generation. This study addresses a gap in scholarship by foregrounding the psychological toll of leadership failure on ordinary citizens, an aspect often neglected in previous research. The findings reveal the authors’ depiction of corrupt leadership as a force that undermines social cohesion, exacerbates generational divides, and fosters a profound disillusionment with the nation’s prospects. Additionally, the study highlights the powerful role of literature in exposing, critiquing, and challenging socio-political realities, presenting literature as an avenue for social reflection and potential change. In conclusion, the study argues that both Okediran and Betiang advocate for a transformative model of leadership rooted in ethical principles, offering an alternative to the entrenched neocolonial systems that continue to hinder Nigeria's postcolonial development. This research contributes significant insights to African literary discourse and provides valuable perspectives for those interested in leadership studies, governance, and postcolonial theory, revealing the importance of ethical leadership in fostering social trust and sustainable development in postcolonial African societies.

Metakaolin, a by-product of the kaolin clay calcinations process, has gained attention as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in concrete due to its pozzolanic activity and its positive impact on concrete strength and durability. Metakaolin, a pozzolanic material, was added to the concrete mix as to enhance its strength and durability. A grade of concrete (60MPa) was used, and the compressive strength, workability and durability were measured and compared with the control mix.

The results showed that the addition of metakaolin improved the flexural strength, modulus of elasticity, and toughness of all three concrete grades compared to the control mix. However, the extent of improvement was different for each grade, with the 60MPa grade exhibiting the highest improvement.

In summary, metakaolin addition improves both compressive and split tensile strength of concrete, but the correlation between strength and metakaolin content is stronger for compressive strength. Further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and optimize the proportion of metakaolin for specific applications.

ProjectFederal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-535731231764712898IMPACT OF TAX REFORMS ON CORPORATE TAX BURDENSolomon Adedayo Ajayi · BSc · AccountingThis study investigates the impact of tax reform on corporate tax burden among listed firms in Nigeria. With increasing emphasis on creating a sustainable tax environment that promotes compliance and enhances corporate profitability, the study evaluated how key components of tax reforms namely tax base broadening, administrative efficiency, tax incidence, and effective tax rate affect corporate tax obligations. An ex-post facto research design was employed using structured questionnaires administered to 306 stakeholders, including tax officers and business owners across six southwestern Nigerian states. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression techniques. Findings indicate that tax base broadening, administrative efficiency, and effective tax rates have significant effects on corporate tax burden, while tax incidence showed a moderate yet noteworthy influence. Specifically, improved administrative efficiency and a broadened tax base were associated with a reduction in the perceived tax burden, while inconsistencies in tax incidence created mixed outcomes across business sizes. The study confirms that well-structured tax reforms can lower compliance costs, increase fiscal transparency, and enhance financial sustainability among firms. The results also validate the relevance of Public Choice and Keynesian Theories in explaining the political economy and macroeconomic implications of tax policy. This research contributes to fiscal policy literature by providing empirical insights into how reform-driven tax policy can improve corporate fiscal outcomes. Recommendations include promoting digital tax systems, simplifying tax structures, and enhancing stakeholder engagement for sustainable reform implementation.
