A SURVEY ON TRADITIONAL AND ONLINE LEARNING STRATEGIES ON COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION STUDENT IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY BIRNIN KEBBI
Abubakar Wasagu Muhammad · BSc · Education and computer science

This study presents a survey on traditional and online learning strategies on computer science education in the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK). With the rapid integration of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in higher education, particularly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, universities have adopted both conventional face to face instruction and digital platforms to deliver computer science courses. The research employed a descriptive survey design, drawing data from 120 respondents (100 students and 20 lecturers) in the Department of Computer Science. Findings revealed that traditional learning remains more effective in fostering understanding, discipline, and hands-on practice due to direct interaction and access to laboratory resources. Conversely, online learning offered flexibility, self-paced study, and access to recorded materials, but was constrained by poor internet connectivity, limited infrastructure, low motivation, and inadequate digital literacy. The study concludes that neither method alone is sufficient for optimal learning outcomes in technical fields. Instead, a blended learning approach, which integrates the strengths of both models, is recommended as the most effective strategy for enhancing teaching, learning, and digital skill acquisition in computer education. Recommendations include improved ICT infrastructure, lecturer training, student support, and policy frameworks to sustain blended learning at FUBK and similar institutions.

DISINTEGRATING PHALLOCENTRISM: A FEMINIST REIMAGINING OF GENDER HIERARCHIES IN THE VISIT BY CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND THE SECRET LIVES OF BABA SEGI'S WIVES BY LOLA SHONEYIN
Aishat Ayantooke Fasasi · BA · B.A Literature

This study examines how Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s The Visit and Lola Shoneyin’s The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives disintegrate phallocentrism and reimagine gender hierarchies in African literature. Using womanism as the theoretical framework, chosen for its cultural specificity and emphasis on survival, communal well-being, and wholeness, the research explores how both writers critique patriarchal authority while positioning women as agents of transformation. Through close textual analysis, the study argues that Adichie employs satire and dystopian inversion to expose the arbitrariness of male dominance, while Shoneyin’s realist narrative highlights women’s resilience and strategic resistance within the patriarchal institution of polygamy. Despite their stylistic differences, both authors affirm that patriarchy is neither natural nor immutable.
The research further contends that womanism provides a culturally grounded alternative to Western feminism by emphasizing collective survival over antagonism and redefining power through solidarity, truth, and communal care. Ultimately, the study concludes that the disintegration of phallocentrism in African literature occurs not through confrontation or mere reversal, but through the womanist reimagining of women as cultural agents and custodians of social renewal. This work contributes to feminist literary scholarship by reaffirming literature’s role in envisioning more equitable and sustainable gender relations within African societies.

Bisola Janet Adediji · BEd · Education and Physics

This study assessed the influence of gender and school locations on classroom interactions and performance in Physics in senior secondary schools in Osun state. It examined the influence of gender on classroom interactions during Physics lessons in the study area. The study also determined how school locations influence classroom interactions. Lastly, it assessed the joint influence of gender and school locations on classroom interactions and students’ performance in Physics in Osun state.

The study was conducted using descriptive survey design. The design is appropriate because a structured questionnaire was used to collect the study’s data from the study sample. The population of study consist of all Physics students in Ife Local Government in Osun state. The sample size used for the study is 150 Physics students in Ife Local Government Area in Osun state. The sample was selected through random sampling technique in stages. Two local government areas were initially selected from Ife constituency. Eight schools were randomly selected of which sizeable number of students were also chosen randomly for the study. The research instrument is made up of 3 sections. The collected data were analyzed using frequency counts, independent t-tests, and regression analysis via the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

The results of the findings showed no significant influence of gender or school location on classroom interactions individually or jointly, as the significant values obtained were greater than the 0.05 level of significance. However, findings also revealed a joint significant influence of gender and school location on students’ performance in Physics, as the significant value obtained was less than the 0.05 level of significance. This implies that while classroom interactions were not notably affected by these factors, students’ academic performance were influenced when both factors were considered together.

The study concluded that neither gender nor school locations independently determine the level of classroom interaction in Physics among senior secondary school students in Osun state but when considered together, they significantly influence students’ academic performance. Improvement of students’ performance in Physics should not only focus on content delivery but also consider social factors such as gender and school environment.
