ProjectUniversity of Maiduguri, Borno State · 2026 · NDN PRJ-279021431776358330PRODUCTION OF RAPID HARDENING CONCRETE (RHC) USING LOCAL AGGREGATE AND SODIUM CHLORIDE (NACL) AS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF CEMENTMustapha Muhammad Adam · BEng · Civil and Water Resources EngineeringOrdinary Portland cement often causes slow strength development and construction delays. Rapid-hardening cement offers faster construction, cost-effectiveness, reduced maintenance, and improved durability, making it ideal for emergency repairs, cold weather concreting, and precast concrete production. Rapid-hardening concrete is a specialized type of concrete that gains strength at an accelerated rate, allowing for faster construction and reduce project timelines. This study focuses on the use of Table Salt (NaCl), Bama gravel, river sand, and crushed stone to produce rapid-hardening concrete. Concrete mix design was evaluated using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (MATLAB Application) based on BS 8500 Mix Design Method. The standard cubes of 150mm × 150mm × 150mm, were produced for compressive strength tests. A total of 60 cubes were cast using mix proportions of 1:0.63:0.09:0.95:0.36 (cement: river sand: Bama gravel: crushed stone: water). The materials were mixed with up to 4% NaCl in an increment rate of 1% as a partial replacement of cement. The aggregate qualification tests revealed that the materials used are within the stipulated codes and standards. The hydration properties results showed that the percentage replacement of NaCl increases the consistency, reduces setting times, and increases early strength gain. The mix proportion adequately produced rapid-hardening concrete with a compressive strength of 33.23 N/mm2 in 1 day. However, there is a deviation of 3.83% in the target strength, though concrete with high-performance properties of 57.67 N/mm2 at 4% NaCl replacement was achieved at 28 days. Rapid-hardening concrete should be used in the construction in cold-weather, hydraulic structures like bridges, culverts, dams, drainages, and highway pavements due to rapid settings and early strength gain characteristics.

ProjectFederal University, Dutse, Jigawa State · 2026 · NDN PRJ-2779416931776358311EFFECTS OF DIETARY LEMON GRASS (CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS) ON THE SMALL INTESTINAL MORPHOLOGY OF RABBITSYahanasu Sulaiman · BSc · AgricultureABSTRACT
This study investigated the impact of dietary lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) on the intestinal morphology of weaner rabbits. A total of sixty rabbits were randomly assigned to five dietary treatments: a control group (0% lemon grass) and four experimental groups supplemented with 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.0% lemon grass. The experiment lasted for 56 days. Results indicated that dietary lemon grass supplementation significantly (P < 0.05) enhanced villus height and crypt depth in the duodenum and ileum, particularly at higher inclusion levels. However, no significant (P > 0.05) changes were observed in jejunal villi height across treatments. These findings suggest that lemon grass can positively influence intestinal morphology, potentially improving nutrient absorption and overall gut health in weaner rabbits. Further research is required to elucidate the specific mechanisms underlying these effects and to optimize the inclusion rate of lemon grass in rabbit diets.

ProjectCollege of Education, Waka-Biu (Affiliated To Uni Maid), Borno State · 2026 · NDN PRJ-27884437231776358303EFFECTS OF FAMILY BACKGROUND ON CHEMISTRY STUDENTS ACADEMICACHIEVEMENTINSENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS (A CASE STUDY OF BIU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BORNO STATE)Abdulwaheed Abdulsalam · BEd · ChemistryAbstract
According to the National Scientific Council, a child's academic achievement is influenced by a variety of factors, one of which is their family background. The studies have shown that children from higher socioeconomic backgrounds tend to have better academic achievement compared to those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. This can be attributed to factors such as access resources, parental involvement, and familial expectations. Additionally, parent occupation, family structure, and parental education level also play a significant role in a child's academic success. Understanding the impact of family background on student academic achievement can help educators and policymakers develop strategies to support and improve academic outcomes for all students, regardless of their family background.
