Onome Edith Emojero · HND · COMPUTER SCIENCE

This study examined automated forensic auditing and frauds control in Nigeria. Specifically, the study determined the extent of financial fraud in Nigeria, examined the effectiveness of forensic auditing in the detection of fraudulent activities in Nigeria, examined whether the application of automated forensic auditing and frauds control has reduced the occurrence of fraud cases and identified the factors militating against the effectiveness of automated forensic auditing and frauds control in Nigeria. A total of 50 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the white collar theory. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that the application of automated forensic auditing and frauds control has reduced the occurrence of fraud cases. The study also found out that the factors militating against the effectiveness of automated forensic auditing and frauds control in Nigeria include: lack of adequate technical know-how, poor adoption of advanced technological aids, poor or lack of adequate training of key officers, infringing the independence & neutrality of forensic accountants and corruption. The study recommended that government and regulatory authorities should ensure the provision of standards and guidelines to regulate forensic activities and above all Nigerians should embrace integrity, objectivity, fairness and accountability in their day-to-day activities. The study further recommended that seminars should be organized to encourage the use of automated tools by organizations, so as to make them aware of the fact that they can save more in preventing frauds unlike when the fraud has already occur.

IMPACT OF NIGERIA DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION ON BANK STABILITY IN NIGERIA
Malik Olamide Obe · BSc · Banking amd Finance

This study examines the impact of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation on banking stability in Nigeria.
The specific objectives of the study was to examine the relationship between NDIC and banking stability in
Nigeria. The study employed secondary data which was obtained from the central bank of Nigeria (CBN)
statistical bulletin, financial statement of the Nigerian deposit insurance corporation database and the
publication of the Nigeria Bureau of statistics for a period of thirty seven years ranging from 1985-2022. The
study conducts the ordinary least square regression to test the significance of the independent variable and
the dependent variable in the study, it also conducts the Pearson correlation to test the relationship that
exist between the variables and also variance inflation test to identify the correlation between the
independent variable and the strength of the correlation. The study reveals that there is significant
relationship between NDIC and Banking stability in Nigeria Based on the detailed results and analysis
derived from the ARDL results in table 4.4,Loan Recovered to Total Loans and Advances with a coefficient
value of-0.007567 which are negatively significant at 95% confidence level. This connotes that a significant
connection exists amid Loan Recovered to Total Loans and Advances and Bank System Stability in Nigeria.
Hence, the research hypothesis which stipulate that Loan Recovered to Total Loans and Advances and Bank
System Stability in Nigeria is rejected. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that the NDIC
should collaborate with banks to improve loan recovery mechanisms, focusing on efficient strategies for
non-performing loans. This includes early identification of distressed loans and the use of specialized agents.
Improving the legal framework for recovering defaulted loans can also reduce non-performing loans in the
banking system.

PHYTOCHEMICAL AND ANTIMICROBIAL ANALYSIS OF HULLS AND NUT OF TERRACARPIDUM CONOPHORUM ON SELECTED GRAM POSITIVE AND GRAM NEGATIVE BACTERIA
Ogili Cynthia Chikadibia · HND · Microbiology

Nigeria is well known for various medicinal plants including Tetracarpidium
conophorum (upka) that have long been used for the treatment of a handful of
infectious diseases. T. conophorum is one of Nigeria’s valuable medicinal
plants found in the plant family Euphorbiaceae. This study evaluated the in
vitro antimicrobial activity of the hulls and nut (edible) of T. conophorum on
pathogenic microorganisms. Antimicrobial activities of the extracts from hull
and nut of T. conophorum was evaluated on pathogenic species of
Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, E. coli, Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Candida albicans, Aspergillus species
using the agar well diffusion method. Phytochemical analysis of T. conophorum
extracts on aqueous, ethanol and n-hexane showed the presence of alkaloids,
glycosides, reduced compound sugar, carbohydrates, and protein in both hull
and nut. Antimicrobial analysis conducted confirmed the anti-bacterial and
antifungal potentials of T. conophorum plant. The inhibition zone diameter of
the soaked hull of T. conophorum against the bacterial isolates was in the range
of 10-18 mm while the IZD of the soaked nut of T. conophorum was in the
range of 10-17 mm for the bacterial isolates. The IZD of the plant extracts
against the fungal isolates was in the range of 11-13 mm. The ethanol and nhexane extracts of the soaked nut of T. conophorum plant had little
antimicrobial activity on the fungal isolates compared to the bacterial isolates
which were more susceptible to the antimicrobial activity of the plant.
