ProjectUniversity of Benin, Benin City, Edo State · 2026 · NDN PRJ-298376531777996953PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS ON CONTRACEPTIVE USAGE IN EKOSODIN COMMUNITYIreoluwa Blessing Aruwayo · BSc · Sociology and AnthropologyThis cross-sectional study examined students' perceptions of contraceptive usage in Ekosodin community, University of Benin, Nigeria, involving 130 male and female undergraduates selected via simple random sampling. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages). Findings revealed high contraceptive awareness (90%), with condoms (80%) and pills (60%) most recognized, but low knowledge of long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) like IUDs (30%) and implants (20%), due to reliance on informal sources (friends/peers and media, 30% each) and limited formal education (40% attended sessions). Positive perceptions of effectiveness were strong (80% agreed contraceptives prevent pregnancy), yet 30% associated use with sexual irresponsibility, influenced by cultural/moral beliefs. Half (50%) reported contraceptive use, primarily condoms (40%) and pills (20%). Key barriers included fear of side effects (50%), high cost (40%), stigma/embarrassment (50%), lack of confidentiality (50%), and religious/cultural beliefs (30%). Grounded in symbolic interactionism, the study highlights how social meanings shape behaviors. Recommendations include mandatory reproductive health education, youth-friendly confidential services, subsidized contraceptives, peer-led campaigns, and gender-inclusive programs to address myths, improve access, and promote informed usage, thereby reducing unintended pregnancies and STIs.

ProjectKogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Kogi State · 2026 · NDN PRJ-29693215331777996763EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF AGRICULTURAL SUBSIDIES IN REDUCING FOOD PRICES IN KOGI STATE (A CASE STUDY OF IBAJI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KOGI STATE)Friday Ameh · HND · Public AdministrationAbstract<br> This study focused on the effectiveness of agricultural subsidies in reducing food prices in Kogi State using Ibaji Local government as the study area. The major objective of this project is to examine the reasons for agricultural subsidies in Kogi State, various types of agricultural subsidies in Kogi State and the effects of agricultural subsidies on agricultural output in Kogi State. The methodology adopted in gathering data was descriptive survey method, both the primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary source is the questionnaire. From a population of 472,670 a sample size of 400 respondents was selected using Taro Yamane. Findings revealed that agricultural subsidies have the potential to be a powerful tool in reducing food prices and ensuring food security in Nigeria, especially in agriculturally rich regions like Kogi State. However, their success depends on proper planning, efficient implementation, and monitoring. In Kogi State, despite the availability of arable land and a farming population, the impact of subsidies has been limited due to systemic challenges such as corruption, late input delivery, lack of awareness among farmers, and absence of supporting infrastructure like roads and storage facilities. In view of the findings, it was recommended that Government should develop a reliable and transparent farmer database in Ibaji to ensure that only genuine and active smallholder farmers benefit from subsidy programs. They should deliver subsidized inputs like fertilizers, seeds, and agrochemicals before the beginning of the farming season to allow proper planning and usage. Also. there is need to deploy trained agricultural extension officers in rural areas like Ibaji to educate farmers on the proper use of inputs and improved farming practices.
