ProjectFederal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-650871231765172373FAMILY-RELATED FACTORS AND GAMBLING ATTITUDES AMONG UNDERGRADUATES: A QUANTITATIVE STUDY.Adegoke Timileyin Florence · BEd · Guidance and counselingABSTRACT

This study investigates the influence of family-related factors on gambling attitudes among undergraduates at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria, employing a quantitative descriptive survey design. A stratified random sample of 200 undergraduates from diverse faculties and academic levels completed a structured questionnaire assessing family economic status, family structure, parental attitudes, and gambling behaviors. Findings revealed that 60% of respondents had engaged in gambling, with sports betting being predominant. A significant positive correlation (r = 0.465, p < 0.01) was found between parental gambling habits and students’ favorable gambling attitudes, while family income showed a negative correlation (r = -0.276, p < 0.01), indicating higher gambling tendencies among students from low-income households. Single-parent households were associated with increased gambling risks (mean = 2.80), whereas stable family environments and parental disapproval deterred gambling (means = 2.86 and 2.88, respectively). Regression analysis indicated that family-related factors explain 24.8% of the variance in gambling attitudes. Awareness programs and counseling were perceived as effective interventions (mean = 2.76). The study underscores the critical role of family dynamics in shaping gambling attitudes and recommends enhanced parental involvement, university counseling, and stricter regulations on gambling platforms to mitigate this issue among Nigerian undergraduates.

ProjectFederal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-554333331765172258EFFECTS OF HUMAN MANAGEMENT IN ACHIEVING FOOD SECURITY AMONG CROP FARMERS IN IMO STATERachael Chinwe Ifeanyi · BTech · Agricultural ExtensionSeveral Nigerian communities had in recent times experienced an upsurge of groundwater flooding with devastating effects. The demand for land for development had not been without attendant problems caused by the flood and neglect of building and other related laws. The work identified main factors that cause groundwater flood and their effects thereof. Questionnaires were designed and administered on respondents from the research area, while a relative severity index established.
It was found from the analysis of combined responses using the weighted means method that property values are adversely affected by flood. And that flood activities hinder appreciable land development. This paper recommends among other things the enforcement of building and other laws aimed at reducing the incidence and effect of flood and the use of modern digital GIS devices in flood forecasting. The climate change phenomenon with its associated increase in global temperature, precipitation and rise in sea levels has also ushered in an increased frequency of flooding in recent times. In the year 2012, many Nigerian cities suffered from the ravaging effects of flooding. This led to lose of lives, internal displacements, destruction of properties, disruption of socio-economic, cultural and religious activities; and splintering of family ties. The city of Nnewi in Anambra state, Nigeria featured among the vulnerable cities which are susceptible to flooding. This study set out to find out the causes of flooding in these cities with a view to recommending measures that will help ameliorate the situation. Direct observations and structured interview methods were used to acquire the needed primary data from residents of identified flood prone areas and in addition to secondary data obtained from official records of the State Ministry of Environment. The result revealed that although flooding gives the residents of Nnewi nightmares, especially during the rainy seasons; it had received only 15% of government intervention activities on environmental problems. There is gross inadequacy in the provision of drainage channels, coupled with poor designs, poor construction and blocked drainage channels.
In addition, houses are built indiscriminately, while solid waste disposal are not properly managed.
In view of the above discoveries, some of the recommendations which were postulated include the need to develop and implement proactive and holistic urban flooding control and management incasures which are rooted in Public participation.

ProjectCrown Polytechnic, Odo, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-6491539231765172116ANTIMICROBIAL PRODUCING BACILLUS SPECIES FROM WASTE DUMP SITES IN ADO EKITIBlessing Bukola Ayeni · HND · Science laboratory technologyBacillus species are an important source of fine biochemical, antibiotics and insecticides. This study was therefore carried out to determine the antimicrobial producing bacillus species from waste dump sites in Ado-Ekiti. Soil samples were collected from 6 different dump sites in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. Total bacteria plate counts were carried out on nutrient agar using pour plate techniques. The bacterial growth were identified using colonial morphology, gram staining and biochemical characterization. The Antagonistic effect of the cell free supernatant extract (CFS) of Bacillus spp isolated were tested against clinical bacterial and fungal isolates; Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis using disc diffusion techniques. The total bacterial plate count of the six soil samples from dumpsites ranges from 2.5 x107 cfu/g to 3.4 x 107 cfu/g. Three different species of Bacillus were isolated with Bacilluscereus having the highest isolation rate of 2(50.0%), followed by Bacilluslicheniformis and Bacillusmycoides. The cell free supernatant (CFS) of Bacilluslicheniformis showed the highest antibacterial effect against clinical bacterial and fungal isolates at 50 µl and 40µl. The CFS of Bacilluscereus showed antagonistic effects on only Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. However, the need for continuous search of the new therapeutic agents from nature is necessary. Therefore, Bacilluslicheniformis with antagonistic effect on both bacterial and candida species might be a very good source of antimicrobial agent.
