THE IMPACT OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS IN FACILITATING LEARNING IN SOME SELECTED PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN KADUNA SOUTH KADUNA STATE
Aisha Mairiga Abba · BSc · Economics Education

This study investigated the impact of instructional materials on facilitating learning in selected primary schools within Kaduna South Local Government Area, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Instructional materials are vital tools that enhance teaching and learning by supporting comprehension, engagement, and student performance. The study aimed to evaluate the types of instructional materials utilized, strategies for improvisation in cases of scarcity, and the influence of these materials on student learning outcomes. The research adopted a descriptive survey design, and data were collected from 50 primary school teachers in selected schools within the study area. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, focusing on teachers' perceptions regarding the availability, use, and impact of instructional materials on learning. The data were analyzed using simple percentages and frequency distributions. The findings revealed that instructional materials, such as visual aids, textbooks, multimedia resources, real-life objects, and maps, significantly enhance student comprehension, engagement, and participation. Teachers' use of instructional materials was reported to improve understanding, retention, and application of knowledge in core subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Additionally, the study highlighted that teachers resorted to improvisation using locally available resources to overcome challenges of scarcity. Despite the positive findings, the study identified challenges related to funding, inadequate resources, insufficient teacher training, and poor accessibility as factors limiting the effective use of instructional materials. Recommendations include increased funding for instructional materials, regular updating of available resources, professional development programs for teachers, improved community involvement, and equitable distribution of instructional resources across schools. This research provides insights for policymakers, educators, and school administrators to address instructional material shortages and improve learning outcomes in Kaduna South and similar contexts.

STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS CBT AND ITS CHALLENGES IN A NIGERIAN UNIVERSITY.
Aishat Omowumi Musibaudeen · BA · social studies education

    ABSTRACT
This study was to investigate Students’ Attitude Towards Cbt And Its Challenges In a Nigerian University, CBT uses digital platforms to deliver assessments, and provide benefits such as automated scoring, instant feedback, and improved administrative efficiency (Alomari, 2021). The primary purpose of this study is to examine the impact of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) on students’ academic performance. Specifically, the study aims to: Explore students’ attitudes toward CBT and their association with academic success. Identify the primary challenges encountered by students and educators in adopting and implementing CBT. Investigate if there are significant differences in student’s attitude towards computer-based test on their demographic information.
A descriptive survey research design of correlation type was adopted to examine the students’ attitude towards Computer-Based Test (CBT) and their digital literacy at the University of Ilorin. The population consists of all undergraduate students at the University of Ilorin. This group was selected because they are directly affected by the implementation of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) in their academic assessments, making them an appropriate population for evaluating the impact of CBT on academic performance.
The findings from this study revealed that students have a generally positive attitude towards the use of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) as a mode of assessment. Specifically, students reported that CBT is more convenient than traditional paper-based examinations, helps them perform better in academic assessments, boosts their confidence, provides immediate feedback that enhances their learning, and is perceived as a fairer method of assessment.
The result from findings of this study is that students' attitudes toward Computer-Based Testing (CBT) do not significantly differ based on gender. This implies that both male and female students generally have similar experiences and perceptions regarding the effectiveness, fairness, and usability of CBT platforms. In view of the findings, the following recommendations are made: Institutions should invest in the development of robust digital infrastructure, including high-capacity servers, reliable testing platforms, and strong internet connectivity to minimize technical failures during CBT. Colleges and universities should partner with internet service providers to provide affordable internet data plans to both staff and students, thus improving accessibility and reducing digital exclusion.

NIGERIA CAPITAL MARKET AS A PANACEA TO ECONOMIC GROWTH (2002-2023)
Oluwadamilare Jesuloba Akiyode · HND · Accounting

    ABSTRACT

This study investigates the role of the Nigerian capital market in driving economic growth between 2002 and 2023. The capital market, comprising the stock exchange and other financial institutions, facilitates long-term funding and investment opportunities that stimulate industrial and economic activities. Data from the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were analyzed using time-series econometric methods. The findings reveal a positive correlation between capital market performance indicators (market capitalization, volume of trade, new listings) and Nigeria’s GDP growth. However, factors like policy instability, low investor confidence, and weak regulatory enforcement have limited its full potential. The study recommends strengthening capital market institutions, increasing investor education, and enforcing transparency to enhance its contribution to economic development.

THE STUDY OF NEGATION IN OWÉ DIALECT OF YORÙBÁ LANGUAGE
Oluwatimileyin Aishat Sadiq · BA · Linguistic and Nigeria languages

This study investigates the syntactic and morphological patterns of negation in the Owé dialect of Yorùbá, a relatively under-documented variety spoken primarily in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. Using the Government and Binding Theory as its theoretical framework, the research identifies and analyses the major negative markers and strategies employed in Owé, including sentential negation, lexical negation, and the negation of imperatives, progressives, perfectives, and demonstratives. Data were collected through direct elicitation and recorded natural speech from native speakers and analysed descriptively within the principles and sub-theories of GB. Findings reveal that Owé exhibits both pre-verbal and post-verbal negative markers, tone-driven negation in certain constructions, and distinct strategies for prohibiting commands. The study contributes to Yorùbá dialectology, African linguistics, and syntactic theory while highlighting the need for further documentation of minority Nigerian languages.

THE IMPACT OF TASK-BASED LEARNING ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ABEOKUTA SOUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Michael Bolutife Oladipo · BEd · English Language

This study investigates the impact of Task-Based Learning (TBL) on the development of English language proficiency among secondary school students in Abeokuta South Local Government, Nigeria. English, as the country's official language and the medium of instruction, poses challenges for students, particularly in rural areas, where traditional teaching methods hinder proficiency, especially in spoken communication. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the study involved 40 students divided into experimental (TBL) and control (traditional instruction) groups. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to evaluate improvements in language proficiency across various domains. Results indicated no significant difference between the two teaching methods, suggesting that TBL, while potentially effective, requires careful implementation tailored to learners' needs. Traditional methods, however, showed a decline in performance, highlighting the limitations of grammar-focused instruction. The findings underscore the need for teacher training and curriculum adjustments to enhance language learning outcomes in Nigeria.
