ProjectAmbrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-372995731765156026EFFECT OF EUPHORBIA HIRTA LEAF ETHANOLIC EXTRACT ON HAEMATOLOGICAL PARAMETERS IN NORMAL AND STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETIC ADULT MALE WISTAR RATSOdey Joy Chinelo · BSc · AnatomyABSTRACT

This study investigated the effect of Euphorbia hirta leaf ethanolic extract (AMEE) on

hematological parameters in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic adult male Wistar rats.

Euphorbia hirta leaf was collected from within the College of Medicine compound of Ambrose

Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State. Forty (20 diabetics and 20 non-diabetic) adult male Wistar

rats of comparable weights (100 ± 20g) were used for this study. Diabetes was induced by intra-

peritoneal injection of 50mg/kg body weight of freshly prepared streptozotocin dissolved in

0.10M citrate buffer (pH 4.5) in 20 rats after 24 hours food fasting. There were divided to 8

groups (n=5) as follows; group 1 normal control while groups 2, 3 and 4 were non-diabetic rats

treated 250 mg/kg ELEEH, 500 mg/kg ELEEH and 0.1 mg/kg glimepiride respectively and

groups 5 to 8 were diabetic rats without treatment, treated 250 mg/kg ELEEH, 500 mg/kg

ELEEH, and 0.1mg/kg glimepiride respectively for 21 days. At the end of the experiment, blood

samples were collected for analysis of some hematological parameters such as pack cell volume

(PCV), red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC) and platelets counts estimation. The data

was analyzed using statistical package and one-way analysis of variance was used to test the

significant at p≤0.05. The ELEEH treatment in non-diabetc rats was observed not to

significantly alter hematological parameter. However, streptozotocin-induced diabetic was shown

to significantly increase WBC but decreased PCV, RBC, and platelet count. Treatment of

diabetic rats with ELEEH was observed to signifcantll modifed these hematological

parameters following diabetic inducton. These findings indicate that ELEEH possess the

potentials to decrease diabetc induced hematological indices alterations and thus the need for

further study on the mechanism involved.

ProjectFederal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Ibadan, Oyo State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-4617120631765155813"BLOOD PROFILE OF WEANER PIGS AS INFLUENCED BY VARYING LEVELS OF PEANUT ( ARACHIS HYPOGEA ) SKIN IN THE DIETS"Stephen Oluwaseun Ogunjimi · HND · Animal Production TechnologyThe study investigated the influence of dietary inclusion of peanut skin (PS) on the haematological

and serum biochemical parameters of weaner pigs. Twenty-four large white weaner pigs were

assigned to four dietary treatments containing 0%(T1), 2.5%(T2), 5%(T3), and 7.5%(T4) peanut

skin respectively, in a Completely Randomized Design over a8-week feeding trial. Results from

proximate and phytochemical analyses indicated that peanut skin is high in crude fiber and

bioactive compounds such as tannins, alkaloids, and polyphenols. The haematological findings

revealed significant increases in Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Haemoglobin (Hb), and Red Blood

Cell (RBC) counts, particularly in the group receiving 7.5%(T4) PS, indicating enhanced

erythropoiesis. However, elevated neutrophils and eosinophils at higher inclusion levels suggest a

mild inflammatory response. Serum biochemistry showed elevated glucose and cholesterol

concentrations, with altered liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST, and ALP), pointing to potential hepatic

stress at higher PS inclusion. The study concludes that moderate dietary inclusion of peanut skin

(up to 2.5%)T2, may enhance certain blood indices without negatively affecting health, but higher

levels (7.5%)T4, could compromise liver function. Peanut skin therefore holds promise as a

low-cost, antioxidant-rich feed additive for swine, provided its inclusion is carefully regulated.

ProjectKwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Kwara State · 2025 · NDN PRJ-5884318331765155248IMPACT OF JUST IN TIME TECHNIQUES ON INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY OF CONSUMER GOODS FIRM (A CASE STUDY OF VITAL FOAM PLC)Munirat Damilola Abdulazeez · HND · AccountingThis study examines the impact of Just-in-Time (JIT) production techniques on productivity within the consumer-goods sector, using Vital Foam PLC as a case study. The research investigates how the adoption of JIT principles-such as inventory minimization, streamlined workflow, supplier coordination, waste reduction, and continuous improvement-affects operational efficiency and output levels. Primary and secondary data were analyzed to assess changes in production lead time, cost efficiency, material handling, and overall organizational performance following JIT implementation. Findings indicate that JIT significantly enhances productivity by reducing inventory-holding costs, improving resource utilization, and increasing responsiveness to market demand.
However, the success of JIT at Vital Foam PLC is influenced by factors such as supplier reliability, employee training, and production planning accuracy.
The study concludes that while JIT offers substantial benefits, its sustained effectiveness requires strong supply-chain integration, consistent quality management, and a supportive organizational culture.
Recommendations include continuous staff development, improved supplier partnerships, and investment in real-time production monitoring technologies.
